Does botox necessitate the need for a healthy detox

The uses of botox seem to be increasing all the time despite all the hype over its use and the claimed need to increase the regularity with which you detox your body; the problem lies in the general misconception about the cosmetic effect it creates. To understand exactly what it is and does, we first have to look at just how this amazing miracle of modern science came to be. It was first studied back in the early 1960’s and derived from the now famous poison Botulinum toxin; originally the purpose of this was to treat neurological disorders.

Then a few decades later in 1989, the Federal Drug Administration in America finally approved its use to treat disorders associated with vision; conditions that caused uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes were the first people to benefit. In the year 2000 it was approved to treat cervical dystonia; this helps people with contractions in the upper back and shoulder and neck area, plus other eye disorders. In their research, doctors discovered that Botox softened the frown lines between the eyebrows; it was after this discovery that it officially came into existence and was FDA approved for cosmetic use in 2002 - even though similar results can be achieved with regular and natural detoxification - though doing a detox isn’t as profitable to the cosmetic companies.

Now, botox is injected into a number of areas, one of which is the forehead to help lessen the effect of years of muscle use that causes a frown; after a number of treatments the lines start to lessen. With continued use, the frown lines in most instances will completely vanish but the same effect can be found in lines at the sides of the eyes, mouth and other forehead lines. To allay any fears about injection toxin into our bodies these injections only contain a diluted and purified version of the poison; this same botulism can make us very ill but when use in cosmetic surgery it is a purified form the Botulinum toxin.

The problem is that when we laugh, cry or frown for example, lines and wrinkles appear caused by the muscles that have helped create the expression; these injections can help eliminate those lines. When we are young and our skin is more elastic, these lines do not show but as we age the constant use of facial muscles leaves us with lines; many ‘skin age reduction cream’ manufacturers have tried to produce creams that reduce facial line but this is the only treatment that works, currently.

Muscles in the area of the botox injection become paralyzed temporarily so they cannot move fully; because facial movement is reduced, it can give a doll like appearance to the user. Owing to this side effect, it has been suggested that people undergoing this procedure should consider following a healthy detox diet every few months to help eliminate some of the toxins that have been introduced.

A person who has undergone this treatment still has enough movement to provide some expressions but they are limited; because most of the wrinkles and creases have all but disappeared, it appears that the person is younger than their true years.

For some people the obvious downside to this treatment is the cost; the average cost of just one injection in the United States ranges from a few hundred dollars to in excess of 1,000 dollars, depending on where the injection is used. The side-effects of regular botox use may take some time to appear as it is only a recent addition to the cosmetic surgeon’s armory but for now, its use does not seem to be diminishing.
